Sakura Prize Winners from the 2010 All Japan Show

Time to catch up with the final group of major prize winners at last weekend's 2010 All Japan Show, the Sakura Prize winners. Sakura prizes are awarded to the best non Gosanke in each size grouping.

Some of the Sakura winners also took Best in Variety prizes, specifically 90bu Sakura winner was the best in variety Kawarimono,the 85bu Sakura the best in variety Shusui, the 80bu Sakura winner the best in variety Ginrin A and the 70bu Sakura winner the best in variety Goshiki. The overall best Sakura champion was awarded to the best in variety Ginrin A, the stunning Ginrin Showa that was first highlighted on here shortly after it was benched - http://www.niigata-nishikigoi.com/node/672. This Koi was supplied by Danny's Koi Cafe.

As you can see Goshiki were somewhat the dominant variety taken 6 of the Sakura awards. Interestingly 4 different Niigata breeders bred Sakura winning Goshiki, namely Hiroi (Yozaimon), Kanno, Aoki and Koda.
