The 90bu female Gosanke

Posted 4 Feb 2010 - 14:52 by Mark Gardner

Well it seems that 4 of the Koi pictured yesterday no showed leaving us with 16 Gosanke in excess of 85cm, here they are.

This Sanke is from Sakai Hiroshima's 'Big Rose' line.  It's very impressive.

The first of Nogami's 2 Koi in this group, this one owned by Danny's Koi Cafe, cared for by Narita since April 2009.

Dainichi Kohaku, owned by Mr Tepsit from Thailand.  Runner up at last year's All Japan Show.  This Koi has grown 8cm in the last year and is now 99cm!  She is 9 years old.

Omosako Showa.

At present I know nothing more about this Kohaku.

I believe this is Sakai Hiroshima, it is built like a battleship, serious volume.

2009 Rinyukai champion owned by 'M' from Thailand, bred by Sakai Hiroshima.

Momotaro's 2009 ZNA All Japan Grand Champion

Another Momotaro Sanke

2008 Rinyukai Champion, now no longer top league, won't contend GC.

This was 2007 Wakagoi Adult Champion

Don't know anything of this Koi

Nogami's 2008 Grand Champion

Dainichi

Don't know about the following 2 Koi

I have to say that this year the quality at the show is awesome, predicting a GC at this stage is harder than the previous 4 All Japan Shows I've been too.

If I had to predict the top 5 I'd go for:

  • the Sakai Sanke
  • the 99cm Dainichi Kohaku
  • the unknown Kohaku 5th pic above
  • the 2009 Rinyukai Grand Champion
  • the 2008 Nogami Nogyosai Grand Champion

None will take a majority dictating a second ballot between

  • Dainichi Kohaku
  • Rinyukai GC
  • Nogyosai GC

My prediction for..........

Nogami's Nogyosai GC

What do you think?  Please post your opinions...

Position of the Top Five

Hi Mr. Mark,

Thank you so much for posting the results.

However, can you also post the actual results of the top 5 GC contender? Where did they stand?

Cheers,,,,

I don't know

Hi Vincent

Unfortunately I don't have that information, I've not seen it published in the Japanese magazines either.

Kohaku in the 5th photo

Mark,

I believe the kohaku in the fifth photo you posted on this thread was bred by Muto Koi Farm. I saw her photo in Narita Koi Farm advertisement of March 2009 issue of Nishikigoi monthly. In the advertisement she measures 85cm & should be hachi-sai (8 year old) by now.

Can't seem to post the photo up though, cannot figure out how to do it. Sorry guys.

Photographs

Hi Mark,

Some impressive photographs there as usual and the Koi aint too bad either!!!!!  The big Sanke looks very impressive and a 99cm Kohaku is pretty good too, so you may well have the prediction about right.

Would you mind if I used some of the photographs on Koi Quest, giving full credit to you and of course to to Niigata Nishikigoi .com?  Need to keep everyone back in the UK interested and no better place for them to see the pics than here.  Just want to copy a couple across, then provide a link to here.

GC

 Hi Mark

I must say the pictures you posted yesterday are far better than the ones you have taken today..lol!

I totally agree with you about your decision for the possible GC. I think both the Sakai and Nogami Kohaku are far more worthy of the title. I really am keeping my fingers crossed that the Nogami Kohaku wins the award however, he has been such a good friend and mentor to me over the years and i know just how much this will mean to him and his farm. Not only that it's awesome!!!

I just hope that the whole 'size' issue doesn't swing the judges in favour of the Dainichi Kohaku, it is impressive for a koi of that size and age to grow so much this year but i do think it has has a slightly negative impact on the body.

We will hav to wait and see, please say hello to Nogami san for me and wish him good luck! Keep the pictures coming Mark because they are easing the pain of not managing to get there myself.
