Niigata Breeders Auction
Posted 22 Apr 2009 - 20:12 by Mark Gardner
As I've mentioned over the last few days, today was the day for the Niigata Breeders Auction, as far as I'm aware it was the first staging of the event.
Below some pictures and brief details. Will update more and add video within the next 24 hours.
10am this morning, all the Koi in the vats, potential buyers arriving.

Mitsunori Isa placing the Koi in bags in preparation for the auction to start

The Koi being auctioned being wheeled between the potential bidders

Lots lined up awaiting auction

Taro Kataoka (Oya Koi Farm), one of the auctioneers for the day

Hiroyuki Hirasawa (Hirashin Koi Farm) another of the auctioneers. 300,000 yen very much the higher end of the lots on offer.

Tamotsu Nagashima, supplier of the 2009 Wakagoi Grand Champion, placing a bid

A determined looking bidder

Yoshikazu Otsuka (Otsuka Koi Farm) and another bidder holding out against one another

Lucky number 7 for Kim's Koi from Belgium?

Hiroi Seiji upping the price a notch to 50,000 yen

Dainichi nisai Showa, 55cm, child of Sayuri, and the most expensive lot of the day. Sadly photographing Koi through plastic bags isn't very effective. Thankfully I got some video of her before she was bagged. Stay tuned tomorrow.
