Getting to Niigata

Niigata Prefecture is serviced by Shinkansen (Bullet Trains), major road links and also has an international airport, albeit only to a handful of 'local' destinations.
Most people visiting will undoubtedly opt to take the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagaoka, a journey of around 2 hours dependent on the type of Shinkansen.

There are a number of products for which Niigata is famous, for example rice, which it is Japans 2nd highest producing prefecture, sake (rice wine) which it is 3rd highest producing prefecture. This guide largely concentrates on Nagaoka and Ojiya, these cities being closest to the majority of Nishikigoi breeders in Niigata Prefecture. |
